Forum presents strategies for strengthening state human service delivery in hard times
Boston – Two reports released today by the Boston Foundation make the case that vulnerable clients of the state’s Office of Human Services can be better served by changes that also promise significant savings in government costs. The reports were released at an Understanding Boston Forum held at the Foundation as part of a series titled the Utility of Trouble, sponsored by the Foundation, which identifies ways to make government services more efficient, cutting costs at a time of diminished resources, while improving the services provided.

Boston Foundation announces ‘My Summer in the City’ grants for youth activities in every city neighborhood
Boston – The Boston Foundation has announced more than $550,000 in grants to 87 community-based organizations in every neighborhood of the city to provide positive activities through the summer to local youth. Two separate programs providing an additional $75,000 in summer funding were also announced.

Boston Foundation Board announces June grants to address foundation’s strategies
Boston – The Boston Foundation has announced the distribution of almost $30 million in grants approved by the Board of Directors at its quarterly meeting this morning. That included a grant of $1 million to be paid over five years to provide general support for the Fairmount/Indigo Line CDC Collaborative, which focuses on issues of transit equity, real estate planning and economic development along the Fairmount corridor. The area contains some of the lowest income communities in Boston which are currently underserved by transportation. The Indigo Line refers to a proposed MBTA transit line that would run from Back Bay to Mattapan, serving communities across the city.

Boston Foundation announces three new members of Board of Directors
Boston – A former Manager at Bain & Company who serves as Chair of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Boston; the Managing Director of Charlesbank Capital Partners; and the Pastor of Charles Street AME Church in Roxbury have been named to the Board of Directors of the Boston Foundation, it was announced today at the Board’s quarterly meeting.

Leading funders join Mayor Menino, Boston Public Schools to build a historic educational partnership
Boston— The City of Boston and the Boston School Department along with Greater Boston’s leading public charities and philanthropic foundations have teamed up to form the BostonOpportunity Agenda, a historic partnership created to make Boston the premier city of upward mobility where all can achieve greater opportunity. This is the first time in the country that funders have committed significant investment to support an education pipeline that spans the full range of services from early childhood care and education, out-of-school time, parent engagement through post-secondary achievement.
